The Streetscapers’ committee, with the valued help of the Surf Coast Shire, reached an important milestone at their meeting in March.

The aim was to seek Council endorsement for the feasibility of the development of the Streetscape Vision, which has been circulated widely within and around Deans Marsh in the last few months. The vision included 4 key priority areas – street tree planting, a town history trail, town entry signage and public art.   This proposal will be presented to Council at their meeting on 28th March.

In the meantime, we have an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the ‘beautifying’ of the town by organizing a working-bee to tidy up the pathways around the town. In particular the one along Birregurra-Deans Marsh Road, which took 6 years of constant campaigning before it became a reality.   As those of us who use this pathway regularly will have noticed, weeds are encroaching over it, as a result of which the symmetry of the pathway which was so clear and pleasing after its construction, is fast disappearing.

Discussion on the subject has led us to believe that it would take no more than a morning’s work by a group of people to bring the pathway back to its formal ‘glory’.

Volunteers would be divided into groups and spread out along the length of the pathway. Battery operated edgers together with string trimmers would vastly speed up the process, and then one would need people to gather up the debris and cart it away.

At this point in time the date planned for the project is Sunday 30th April.

So, we are looking for volunteers!
