Deans Marsh Tennis Club

Deans Marsh Tennis Club

Although it may feel cold, wet and dark outside right now – believe it or not the tennis season is fast approaching.  For those who have been enjoying the warmth of Wimbledon on your TV, now is your chance to dig out those old tennis rackets from the shed and prepare for the season ahead.

HISTORY

The Deans Marsh Tennis Club has a proud history.  Deans Marsh was a founding member of the Polwarth and District Tennis Association back in 1937 when just four clubs participated – Barwon Downs, Forrest, Deans Marsh and Murroon.  Many more clubs have joined the league since resulting in many active clubs, including Apollo Bay, Warncoort, Birregurra, Elliminyt, Beeac, Colac, Pennyroyal.

Our home is the small shed by the courts and matches have been played on the courts for many years.  We have a small array of trophies over the years that we hope to display appropriately soon and we’ve managed to track down a few old photos from the past.  See anyone you recognise?

If you have any other old photos lying around, we’d love to see them displayed.

MORE RECENTLY

Over the past few years the club has been mainly participating in junior tennis as numbers dwindled.  In 2021/2022 we were down to just one junior team who battled on courageously through COVID and their hard work and dedication resulted in a Division Win.

In 2022 we were able to expand to two junior teams, with another finals appearance, taking out the runner up trophy.

Another favourite event is the annual Grass Court Championship and Deans Marsh tennis players have enjoyed much success there over the past couple of years in doubles and singles.

COME AND JOIN US

We would love to see the Club thrive and grow as new young players come through and older players move on.  We’d even love to have a senior’s team for serious and not so serious games.
