Local Deans Marsh residents are gearing up for the annual Deans Marsh Festival to be held on Sunday 22nd March 2015.
2014 saw over 700 community members exceed expectation with a giant patchwork of flags. This years community arts project involves individuals creating small weave works, culminating in a giant tapestry.
The project involves sending out weaving packs to households in the Deans Marsh area. Each pack includes instructions on how to create a small weave to become a part of a giant display at the 2015 festival. Packs will also be available from the Deans Marsh and Birregurra General Stores, or you can contact festival organisers to arrange postage.
Additionally, for enthusiasts the Festival will be running free weaving workshops in the weeks leading up to the Festival.
Festival organisers, the Deans Marsh Community Cottage are excited to partner with the Bendigo Bank to deliver the weaving project. Additional sponsorship from businesses such as King Parrot Cottages, Occasions Event Hire and Cape Otway Lightstation are also greatly appreciated.
Each year the festival welcomes thousands of visitors to enjoy great live music, street performers, Otway food and wine and a unique artisans craft market. There are a range of kids activities (Boxology is back!), local harvest demonstrations and crowd favourites the Deans Marsh Gift & dog jump.
Organisers are still on the lookout forcraftspeople, artists and food producers. For more information about sponsorship, the weaving project, stalls or festival please visit deansmarshfestival.com.au or contact 5236 3388.
