The Deans Marsh Community Cottage’s, Marshmallow club organised and ran “The Best Cake in the Otway’s” on Sunday the 23rd November at the Deans Marsh Market.
Vic Hope, the main driver of the club said they exceeded all expectations! The kids sold over 350 cake boxes and 100 cakes were returned on the day to be judged and sold as a club fundraiser. The fantastic judges, Katrine Juleff (Pennyroyal Raspberry Farm) and Ami Hillege (Otway Fields), supported by Eugen and Sarah, had the hard task of judging the cakes, finally coming out with 2 very worthy winners!
The visitors to the market were on the edge of their seat waiting to see the fantastic creations and to make sure they didn’t miss out on purchasing one. The fundraiser raised over $1400 which will go towards future club activities.
The Marshmallow club meet each week with the aim to have fun, experience new things while learning new skills including public speaking, friendship and how to turn a project into a self reliant entity!
Each week the kids meet after school, and with support from Irrewarra Sourdough, make an afternoon snack and engage in a range of exciting activities. These have and will include trips to Science works, Luna Park, The Museum, ACME, camp outs to name a few. The Bendigo Community Bank has also been fantastic in the loaning of the Community Bus and the club has had terrific support from the community with many volunteering different skills and time to support the endeavours of the kids…Well done!!!
